As the Store Manager at Guess, Kiara is working a full time job overseeing 15 employees. Recently Kiara was honored as Employee of the Month Award for her District, consisting of 10 other stores. Her store also placed 1st in a nationwide competition for 2 weeks in a row and were awarded $1,500. Using the skills and strategies she learned while studying communications. Kiara has already implemented several key initiatives to improve her store.

Even though Kiara has been committed to her college studies and full time employment, she also found time to dedicate to her community. She was President of HealthyCats Peer Education and was recognized as the member of the university with the most community service hours!  HealthyCats Peer Education is a school organization that presents a variety of health topics on common situations that college students deal with on a daily basis, including stress, exercise, healthy eating habits, tobacco and marijuana usage, and STI’s. As President, she oversees all outreach events and opportunities.  Two examples of successful events are the Safer Spring Break event where they handed out sun block, band aids, and condoms and the Bobcat Build where campus organizations got together to do yard work or paint houses for elderly in the community.

Julie Eckert, the Assistant Director of TX State Student Health Center shared a few words about Kiara. “Kiara Pruitt was a valuable leader and role model for the HealthyCats Peer Education organization at Texas State. She contributed hundreds of hours of her time to improve the health of her peers on campus. We will miss her positive attitude, vibrant enthusiasm, fierce passion and endless energy.”

Kiara has always strived to lead by example, following in the footsteps of her peers and leaders from the Spring Branch Boys and Girls Clubs in Houston, where she consistently volunteered in high school. Kiara lived with her grandmother after her father was murdered and helped look after her youngest brother, sisters and cousins while working through high school to contribute towards family expenses. At North Brook High School, Kiara was Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, Editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, and Homecoming Queen.

Kiara has a very bright future and we are so thankful to have had the opportunity to help guide her. She hasn’t let any obstacle stand in her way of reaching her dreams and we are confident she will continue to shine like a star!

Thank you for believing in me and pushing me through college so that I have an opportunity at a better life. What the SFF does is not just write a check to send people to school, but they see to it that you go and you finish strong. I cannot say thank you enough but I am truly blessed to call this wonderful organization apart of my family! –Kiara Pruitt
